Our technology

Smart Fluids & Gels are based on what is so known as dilation or non-Newtonian fluids, which are substances whose viscosity increases rapidly along with the growth in shear velocity.

Once the threshold tension value has been exceeded, properties typical of fluid are replaced by those characteristics of a solid body. Upon impact, it transforms from a viscous fluid into a resilient solid. This phenomenon disperses the energy and protects objects or people against destructive forces. The process is fully reversible.

Following the impact, the fluid or gel immediately returns to its liquid or gel state and is ready to dissipate energy generated by another blow.

We started working on this particular technology back in 2009.

Research projects carried out at the Warsaw University of Technology resulted in, among others, a prototype of a camouflaged vest and flexible football shin guards.

At present, the technology is developed even further by Smart Fluid – a company that is capable of modeling the properties of the liquid to match the needs of specific applications. All work is performed in close cooperation with the end user.

We have completed a number of research projects aiming to identify effective liquid immobilization methods. We have so far harnessed effective technologie relying on chemical immobilization
